And Goal says any extension will only be for 12 months.

Guardiola does not want to emulate Sir Alex Ferguson or Arsene Wenger in the belief that his players will need fresh ideas.

City finished 18 points behind Liverpool in the Premier League last season after claiming two consecutive titles.
