FC Groningen chief Hans Nijland insists defender Virgil van Dijk could stay this month.

Everton and Newcastle United are keen on the Dutchman.

"I do not assume that Virgil leaves this winter. There has not yet officially been an offer and so we have no need to think about it. It is clear that we are keen to keep Virgil in Groningen. He is a mainstay," said Nijland.
