Green: Hazard told Chelsea players why he wouldn't join Bayern Munich

Former Chelsea goalkeeper Rob Green has lifted the lid on why Eden Hazard chose to join Real Madrid ahead of Bayern Munich.

Hazard was not interested in overshadowing his brother, who joined Borussia Monchengladbach from Chelsea on a permanent deal in 2015 before moving to Borussia Dortmund last summer.

"Eden ruled it out," said Green of the Bayern offer to the Athletic.

"He was like 'I'm not going there because my brother Thorgan is playing in Germany. It would turn into Eden Hazard and his brother'.

"He was basically saying that his brother can be known as Thorgan Hazard there rather than only be referred to as Eden Hazard's brother.

"That could come across as a touch of arrogance but it was actually a magnanimous thing to do."

Hazard would eventually leave Chelsea for Madrid in a deal rising to €150m.
