Tim Sherwood will remain patient with midfield duo Jack Grealish and Carles Gil.

The pair are back in training with Aston Villa after missing last weekend's Premier League opener at Bournemouth with hamstring (Grealish) and ankle (Gil) injuries.

However, Villa boss Tim Sherwood says despite being back on the pitch, the attacking midfield twosome would not make his squad for Friday night's meeting with Manchester United at Villa Park.

"Jack and Carles are still out injured," Sherwood said.

"Once we get everyone fit and fighting for places, it gives us a lot of options to play different ways, which will be crucial.

"Jack and Carles are training. They have had a few training sessions.

"But we don't want to push them back too early because they've had soft tissue injuries. We don't want them to reoccur."
