Preston North End boss Simon Grayson has revealed they had an offer for Donald Love accepted by Manchester United.
The Championship club agreed a fee with United for the defender on Monday but he is now set to join Sunderland, along with Paddy McNair.
Grayson told the Lancashire Evening Post: “We had a bid accepted by a club on Monday but unfortunately the player is going somewhere else – he is joining a Premier League club.
“We were in the market for the player and had a figure agreed with his club but someone else has taken him off our toes in the division above.
“It shows the level of what we are out there looking at."
