Grayson keen to bring Tottenham defender Woodgate back to Leeds

Leeds United want to bring Tottenham defender Jonathan Woodgate back to Elland Road.

The Daily Star says Simon Grayson has already expressed an interest in bringing striker turned midfielder Alan Smith back to his hometown team following the former England star's release by Newcastle.

Now he wants the injury-ravaged Woodgate to forge a central defensive partnership with fit-again Patrick Kisnorbo as Leeds launch another bid for promotion to the Premier League after an agonising seven-year exile.

Woodgate, 31, becomes a free agent when his Tottenham contract runs out at the end of this month and he is currently thinking over a pay-as-you-play deal to stay at White Hart Lane.

But the lure of a two-year contract with the club where it all began for him 13 years ago may be too good for the former England and Real Madrid defender to turn down.
