Grant must prove English skills to begin Portsmouth job

Avram Grant will sit an English-language exam today in order to take up his role as Portsmouth football director.

The Sun says the Israeli must prove he has a written and spoken command of the language before being granted a work permit.

Grant, 54, has already worked at Pompey for a year and managed Chelsea for 10 months.

Portsmouth's Executive Chairman Peter Storrie said: "The rules for non Europeans were changed in the summer.

"And Avram is no exception despite his clear knowledge of England, English football and the language.

"It has been a long-winded process but the end is in sight."
