Gouffran urges ‘scared’ Newcastle to play with passion

Yoann Gouffran has asked his Newcastle United teammates to begin playing with fervour and zeal.

The Magpies hit rock bottom with their insipid display at home against Leicester City last weekend when losing 3-0 in a performance that attracted plenty of negativity from fans and pundits alike.

Steve McClaren's men head to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace this weekend and French midfielder Gouffran has urged the Toon to buck up and put in a much more acceptable showing against their former boss in South London.

"I think we have to play with some passion," Gouffran told the Chronicle.

"Sometimes you can lose games but you must show something.

"The fans are disappointed because we don't play 100%

"Sometimes we look scared.

"We need to give 100% for the fans.

"You can't win every game but we can't lose like we did against Leicester."

Regarding the clash with Pardew, Gouffran insisted that the Magpies have to put sentiment to the side for the good of their flailing season.

"It is a special game for him, and for the players who played with him," he added.

"But really it is about getting points for us.

"We need wins. There will be no love-in."
