Goteborg turn down chance to sign ex-Monaco, Philadelphia Union forward Adu

Swedish club IFK Goteborg have reportedly rejected the chance to sign Freddy Adu.

According to Fotbollskanalen.se, the agent of the 25-year old American forward offered his client to Goteborg but the Allsvansken side have turned down the opportunity.

Former US prodigy Adu is again without a club after being released by Serbian outfit FK Jagodina in December and Goteborg felt it was not the time to make an opening for an out-of-sorts player.

"We were offered him and a number of players, but we turned it down quite early," IFK's sporting director Mats Gren told Fotbollskanalen.se.

"He has not really succeeded anywhere since his breakthrough."

Adu has struggled to make his home at a club since leaving DC United for Real Salt Lake at the end of 2006, spending time with such clubs as Benfica, Monaco and Philadelphia Union.
