Gold Coast United experience plane troubles ahead of Singapore trip

Gold Coast United have had to defer a match against Singapore's U23 side because of a grounded flight.

The club was supposed to play the Young Lions yesterday but could not leave Perth because team owner Clive Palmer's plane had a steering cable break.

Club CEO Clive Mensink said the match will now be played today and the delay has only been a minor hiccup.

"The guys are taking it one game at a time but they obviously want to get to know each other as a team and as a unit," he said.

"We have got Shane Smeltz and Jason Culina on this leg. It's their first opportunity to play on tour and with the squad proper."
