Gold Coast target Porter gives Hartlepool fans hope

Hartlepool United star Joel Porter says a move to Gold Coast United is no done deal. Speaking to the Daily Mail with a heavy Northeast accent, Porter has hinted the door is still open to him remaining in England.

He said: "I'm 30 now and looking for something to see out the playing career. My aim was to play as high as I could over here, for certain reasons that has not worked but I'm OK with that. I don't regret coming to Hartlepool.

"Now I have to look at what is best for me and if that's not in England, it will be back in Australia and parts of it look very attractive."

Porter, who is also coaching Hartlepool's U14s at the club's Centre of Excellence, said: "Some people might think League One is not up to much but the standard is very good and getting better. As the FA Cup shows, we're beating Premier League teams more consistently."
