Simon Dawkins has revealed that there is a little goalscoring contest going on inside the San Jose Earthquakes squad.
The likes of Chris Wondolowski (18 goals), Alan Gordon (11) and Steven Lenhart (8) lead the way for the Western Conference table-toppers whilst Dawkins is not far behind on six courtesy of his double in the 4-1 win over Colorado Rapids on the weekend.
Dawkins, who is on loan from Tottenham, believes that having a number of different scorers is great for the team and says that a mini-competition between the players is having a positive effect as the Quakes lead the league on 52 goals from 26 outings.
"We all have to chip in with scoring goals," Dawkins said.
"[Wondolowski, Gordon and Lenhart] have done a wonderful job this season, but as an attacking player, you look at them and say, 'I want to catch them.'
"It's a little competition between us all. It's healthy. It's good for the team. And that's why we're doing so well right now, because we have that competitive edge about us."
