Glen to fight for strikers role at Hearts

Gary Glen has ambitions to make the Hearts first-team this season despite Jim Jefferies' array of attacking options. Kevin Kyle and Stephen Elliott arrived from Kilmarnock and Preston respectively as forward reinforcements for Hearts' Clydesdale Bank Premier League campaign. David Obua and Calum Elliot are also in contention to play up front, while Glen has been in the treatment room with a hamstring problem.

But Glen, who is hoping to return to full fitness this week, would relish playing alongside Scotland international Kyle, and said: "He's good at holding the ball, wins every header. It would be good in that sense and we've just got to find space. He's got a good touch and being a tall striker you look for headers, but he's got good feet as well."

The 20-year-old, though, is aware he faces competition for a place.

"It's going to be hard but I'm looking forward to it," added Glen.

"I think what the gaffer's plan is to play Kevin and get boys around and about him to supply the ball."

Glen has made a maximum of five successive appearances in the first team since making his debut under Stephen Frail, but now hopes he can get a run.

"I've been in and around the first-team for a couple of seasons now," added Glen, who was launching the club`s new travel partnership with Charlie Irons Coaches.

"I've not had the break that I would've liked. I just want to stay injury free and hopefully that's the end of them and I can kick on to the end of the season."
