Gladbach teen Luca Netz: I rejected Man City - and would do it again

Borussia Monchengladbach teen Luca Netz admits he rejected Manchester City as a junior player.

The 18 year-old left-back had an offer from City when 15, but turned it down.

“Because I think it's rubbish to move to City at such a young age," Netz told BILD via Fussball Transfers.

"Even if I received another offer now, I would decline it. I have a clear plan and it's just way too early for the Premier League right now."

Indeed, Netz insists it'd be too soon at this stage in his career to leave Gladbach. However, the defender concedes the Bundesliga outfit won't be his last club should everything go to plan.

He added: "First of all, it is important for me to play at Borussia, to gain experience and to develop continuously. Then we will see what happens in a few years."

Netz has established himself as a first teamer with Gladbach this season, playing five Bundesliga games at left-back, producing one assist. He joined Gladbach over the summer from Hertha Berlin for €3.5m and enjoyed a senior breakthrough with his old club last season.

The youngster has a deal to 2026. Netz is yet to be capped at U21 level with Germany, though has been a regular with the U17s over the past two seasons.
