Republic of Ireland U21 boss Don Givens insists they were never interested in Tottenham midfielder Jamie O'Hara.

O'Hara was named in the England squad to take on Ireland at St Marys, Southampton on Tuesday for the European Championship qualifier between the two sides.

"We had him watched [at Millwall] and there was contact, but he was never really committed to us," Givens insisted.

"He was hesitating and we felt that he was keeping his options open."
