Stoke City's new signing Shay Given is hoping to continue the club's wonderful goalkeeping tradition.
Some of the greatest ever goalkeepers in the English game such as Peter Shilton and Gordon Banks have turned out for the Potters over the years.
Following his recent transfer from Aston Villa, Given is well aware of Stoke's great tradition of glovemen in Staffordshire and has stated that he is keen on contributing to the custom despite his advancing years.
Given told the Stoke Sentinel: "Peter Shilton and Gordon Banks are two of the greats of goalkeeping terms and it is a statement for Begovic to labelled the best since those two. There is a big tradition of goalkeepers at Stoke down the years and I would love to add to that and play for this club.
"It is about proving to the Stoke fans that I am good enough. I am 39 and still believe I am. I played a big Euro qualifier for Ireland so I believe I have a lot to offer still."
