Former Olympique Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac has jumped to the defence of Manchester United hero Patrice Evra.

Evra has been hammered in France in the aftermath of United's Champions League win at PSG. A public slanging match with former PSG star Jerome Rothen has seen Evra slammed by local football identities.

But Gignac, now with Tigres UNAL, says: "Frankly, we criticise him a lot, but we forgot about his career.

"Everyone should calm down around Patrice Evra, we have been attacking him too easily since 2010."
