Getafe coach Bordalas: Torres was right to stop flight to Milan

Getafe coach Jose Bordalas says president Angel Torres was right to prevent them from flying to Italy for their Europa League tie at Inter Milan.

Torres stopped the squad from traveling due to coronavirus fears earlier this month.

"The President's decision was incredibly spot on. Travelling at that moment was tremendously risky," Bordalas told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Just think of what happened to others who went to Milan around that time, such as Valencia [to play Atalanta] or Real Madrid for basketball.

“Our stance has been positive for us and for football: it has opened the eyes of others.

“There were too many people who thought that nothing would happen and that we had to continue living in a normal way. Time would tell us it wasn't like this."

The Getafe boss however was full of praise for Inter.

“There's little to say about Inter: an historic team, with a great coach and magnificent players, they are a symbol of Serie A, which is growing a lot in regaining their football status.

Cristiano Ronaldo arrived and they've recently signed players from the Premier League, something unthinkable until recently.

“For us they will be a wonderful challenge."
