Gestede a good piece of business for Aston Villa – Sherwood

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has rejoiced in the signing of Rudy Gestede.

The 26-year-old French striker has joined Villa from Blackburn Rovers for a reported fee of £6million and his arrival certainly has the boss of the West Midlands outfit excited.

Gestede scored 34 goals in 65 outings for Blackburn during his stay at Ewood Park and brings with him to Villa a strong goal nous and great ability to compete in the air.

"He hasn't played in the Premier League up to now but he's someone who's capable of doing it," said Sherwood.

"The size of the guy and his aerial presence is immense - better than anything I've seen around in English football.

"His goal-scoring record is second to none. Everyone talks about Jordan Rhodes but Rudy outscored him last season.

"People are talking about £11m for Rhodes, so we think we've got a bargain there with Rudy.

"He terrorises defenders in the air. If he can do it to the defenders in the Championship then he should be able to do it in the Premier League."
