New Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard says the move is a proud moment in his career.
Gerrard says he has taken inspiration from working with coaches in the past.
"I've been lucky enough to have worked with a lot of elite managers," Gerrard told the club's website. "I think it's very important for me to be myself, to put my own stamp on things.
"What I am guilty of is taking things and learning a lot from all the managers - not just the ones I've worked with from a close point of view, managers around the game."
He added: "In my conversations with Nassef, Wes and the rest of the Board, it was apparent how ambitious their plans are for the club and I am looking forward to helping them achieve their aims.
"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everybody associated with Glasgow Rangers for giving me the opportunity to manage such an iconic football club.
"Helping them secure a record-breaking 55th league title will always hold a special place in my heart. I would like to wish the players, staff and supporters the very best for the future."
