Germany World Cup winner Lothar Matthaus has bought into the Accra Lions of Ghana.
The former Bayern Munich and Inter Milan midfielder sees the investment as a chance to move talent to Europe.
Matthäus lands in Ghana with two partners. Former player agent Oliver König, who has been president since the beginning of the year, and Frank Acheampong from Ghana. Former Borussia Dortmund player Ibrahim Tanko acts as sporting director.
“I met Oliver König and Frank Acheampong through a friend about a year ago, and I really liked their idea for the project. I liked it so much that I decided to become a partner," explained Matthäus.
“We want to bring young players to Europe. In a serious and already well-trained way. That is why we are also investing in the training ground here and in a training centre."
