Germany coach Low insists Real Madrid midfielder Kroos a first choice

Germany coach Joachim Low insists Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos is a first choice.

Kroos picked up a knock at the beginning of the international break with Germany and thus had to head back to Madrid, but Germany boss Low has made clear that the midfielder will not lose his place in the team.

After Germany dismantled Iceland 3-0 on Thursday night in their first match of World Cup qualification, with their midfield quartet of Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, Ilkay Gundogan and Kai Havertz all shining, thoughts started to turn towards what will happen when Kroos returns.

"Why should he fear for his place? He is a world-class player and is very important for this team," Low said on Kroos during his post-match press conference.

"We know that we may lose players due to injury, but I am confident that we will have everyone available in May because we will need more than 11 first-choice players for the European Championship."
