Germany manager Joachim Low has claimed that he sent Bastian Schweinsteiger on to calm things down in the dying moments of the win over Ukraine.
However, the 90th-minute substitute ended up running the length of the pitch to score Germany's second goal to secure the 2-0 victory in their Group C opener in Lille.
"It wasn't really the plan that Bastian was going to surface so far forward," Low said.
"We sent him on to try to calm things down."
Shkodran Mustafi opened the scoring for the World Champions with a lovely header from Toni Kroos' free-kick in the 19th minute.
