German FA chief urges Blatter to step aside at FIFA

German Football Association (DFB) president Wolfgang Niersbach has implored Sepp Blatter not to run for the FIFA presidency again.

The current FIFA chief is set go for a fourth stint in charge of world football's governing body in May but Niersbach feels the association would be better served with a new person at the top.

Niersbach revealed that he told Blatter in a private conversation that he would like to see him move away from the hotseat and into a more relaxed role.

"I'd find it good if he became honorary president," said Niersbach.

Swiss administrator Blatter will run against former Portugal star Luis Figo, FIFA's vice-president for Asia Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein and Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) chairman Michael van Praag at the May 29 election in Zurich.
