Genoa chief Andres Blazquez says they can handle relegation to Serie B.
Blazquez insists the club's American owners are building a squad for the long-term.
He said, "I don't make these speeches. I'm just saying that all our investments are long-term. We are here to stay over time. We will continue to invest and plan both in the event of salvation and relegation.
"We want to develop youth teams, create a centre of unique sportsmen for the various teams and with Sampdoria we work on the stadium. If we go to Serie B, we will make a strong team, starting from a higher assumption than a normal team.
"For us there are no expenses, but investment.
"(Andriy) Shevchenko's choice, maybe we didn't know how to work with him and maybe he didn't understand how to work with a team like ours. Surely in another situation he will do very well on the bench, I wish him the best."
