The former Chelsea and City midfielder said on Sunday that the Etihad Stadium outfit would benefit greatly from having Bayern Munich's Guardiola in charge while forecasting the continuity of a great rivalry between he and Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese is being heavily backed to replace Louis van Gaal at Manchester United and Lampard suggests the duo will square off in the Premier League after going toe-to-toe over the years when they were at the helm at Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively.
"They will be a huge force under Guardiola," said New York City FC star Lampard.
"I think, yes, Man City can push on in a massive way. He's an innovator. There are two geniuses: Jose Mourinho and him.
"What a great rivalry that will be if Jose goes to Old Trafford."
