Gian Piero Gasperini admits he's surprised himself winning the Inter Milan job.

The former Genoa boss was appointed last week.

"It was a wonderful surprise," he stated after succeeding Leonardo at San Siro. "I'm absolutely thrilled.

"I'm very happy and I can't wait to start work - even if I'll have to wait for a while until the players get back from holiday.

"We want to have a great season and I'll promise the fans that we will do our best."
