Garang Kuol 'buzzing' ahead of Newcastle move

Departing Central Coast Mariners winger Garang Kuol is "buzzing" about his move to Newcastle United.

Kuol only made his first start for the Mariners on December 18, and provided the assist for Marco Tulio's equaliser in the 2-1 comeback victory over Sydney FC. The teenager can not wait to get started with Newcastle, but insists his only focus right now is signing off with three points.

Kuol told the club's website: "I'm buzzing. I can't wait to get down there, and hit the ground running.

"I don't really think about it all too much. I'm mainly focused on what's in my stride, and looking forward to the future.

"There's a lot of excitement. We're looking forward to the game, we're looking for three points. Our focus remains the same, we go in with full belief, full guns blazing and try and get three points.

Mariners' boss Nick Montgomery admits the A-League club have tried to prepare Kuol for the 'big journey' that lies ahead of him. Montgomery added: “For Australian football he's been a shining light and an inspiration … that you can come from an NPL club in the middle of nowhere, play in the A-League and play in the World Cup.

“Now he's going to have to take that pressure on his shoulders and go to one of the biggest Premier League clubs around. There's going to be pressure on him from now until he finishes his career and that's something we've tried to prepare him for. He's got a big journey ahead of him."
