Gamba Osaka midfielder Yasuhito Endo is being linked with Liverpool.
Endo, 30, was a standout for Japan during the World Cup and his form caught the eye of Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez.
Tokyo sources say Hodgson and his backroom team are now seriously considering a move for Endo, who could arrive as a cut-price replacement for Lucas Leiva.
