Gallo exclusive: Southampton target Okereke ready for Prem ahead of Man Utd clash

David Okereke is a name you might have seen popping up around Europe recently.

The Nigerian striker moved to Club Brugge last summer after impressing at Serie B club Spezia.

Okereke made his debut for Spezia as an 18-year-old on April 9 2016.

Working with the club at the time was Atalanta legend Fabio Gallo.

The former midfielder, who also played for the club, was in charge of Spezia's U19 team between 2014 and 2016.

It was then that he saw and helped cultivate the burgeoning talent of Okereke.

54 appearances for the first team after making his debut, the talented forward was linked with a move to Southampton before he signed a four-year contract with Club Brugge in July 2019.

Okereke has blossomed in Belgium this season, having scored nine goals in 21 league matches.

His exploits have piqued the interest of clubs around Europe, and speaking exclusively with Tribalfootball.com, Ternana coach Gallo says Okereke can make the step to the Premier League.

"Okereke has shown great qualities in Italy and even now in Brugge," he said.

"He's showing his talent and I think that for his characteristics he could be suitable for English football."

Fans might get the opportunity to watch Okereke in the second leg of Club Brugge's Europa League last-16 second leg against Manchester United on Thursday.

Okereke was an unused in the goalless first-leg, but his form domestically this season could see Philippe Clement use the live-wire attacker.
