Former Atletico Madrid captain Gabi says the club should scrap it's over-30 contract policy.
Diego Godin has announced he is leaving at the end of the season, due to the club's policy of offering 12 month deals to players over 30 years of age.
Gabi, now with Al Sadd, told El Larguero: "I understand Diego, I know he has been talking with the club for a long time, it's complicated because he's a hierarchical player and I think it's unfair the new Atletico Madrid policy to renew year after year players over 30 because we are not all equal. He had to go out the big door and he has done it.
"Of course I would eliminate it. The beneficiaries are now the new ones. A new player who comes will earn more than Diego Godín. With what he has shown, he deserved a long contract."
Gabi also took a swipe at Antoine Griezmann, "Griezmann? I would like him to stay, but I do not worry, he does what he wants as he has always done; the club has to be above and I would like those who were inside to have made this clear."
