USA star Clint Dempsey is targeting victory in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The Fulham midfielder and his US teammates are currently in Detroit preparing for tomorrow's opening Group C clash with neighbours Canada and he feels that a solid start will go a long way to putting the team in a good position to take out the tournament.
"We know it's going to be a tough tournament but we want to do well and we want to win it," Dempsey said.
"That's the objective and the first game is Canada and that's what we're concentrating on right now.
"We need to start the Gold Cup off on a good note and win the first game."
As for the 4-0 loss to World Champions Spain on Saturday, Dempsey said it could be the tonic the US players need ahead of a tournament they are expected to do well in.
"It's a little kick up the backside," he said. "Even though it was a friendly, you never want to lose a game, especially by four goals.
"Everybody's going to be fired up for this first game and making sure we take care of business."
