Fulham desperate to retain wantaway Schwarzer

Fulham are hoping they can retain veteran goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer when the January transfer window rolls around.

The Australian international was the subject of much transfer speculation during the European summer with a much talked about to Arsenal never eventuating.

Since then, Schwarzer has made his intentions clear that he plans to leave the club either in January or next summer when his contract at Craven Cottage runs out but manager Mark Hughes is keen on retaining him in a Fulham shirt.

'We weren't and aren't prepared to take money for Mark - he's too important for that," Hughes said.

"And I've made it known to him that I want to him to stay here. If he agrees, that would be ideal."
