Fulham boss Parker furious with VAR after Liverpool draw

Fulham boss Scott Parker was left angry with VAR after their 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

Referee Andre Marriner was advised by VAR Lee Mason to consult his pitchside monitor after Fabinho challenged Ivan Cavaleiro inside the area during the first-half incident.

Marriner, though, chose to stick with his initial decision, which left Parker bewildered.

“In real time, I didn't think it was a penalty," he said. “I thought it wasn't even something that would be checked.

“What amazes me at that point is the communication has gone between VAR and the referee that it needs to be checked.

“I've just seen in the changing room that Fabinho has kicked Cavaleiro's leg for the ball to go out of play.

“It amazes me – we have VAR to help referees. If we didn't have VAR then I'd understand the penalty not being given.

“He's then gone to the screen and still decided not to give a penalty. This for me is not one that we should discuss, this is just a clear penalty. Listen, it is what it is."

Marriner later awarded a spot kick for Liverpool from which Mohamed Salah scored to earn the Reds a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage on Sunday.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was unhappy Bobby Decordova-Reid's opener for Fulham was allowed after claiming Mohamed Salah had been pushed by Antonee Robinson in the build-up.

And Parker added: “I haven't looked at it. There may be a point there but I don't want to comment.

“When VAR is in the game it becomes a shouting match, 'let's check that, let's check this'.

“That's the way the game is going, really."
