Frozen Boselli set to be thawed out by Wigan manager

Mauro Boselli is likely to be given an opportunity in Wigan Athletic's first team in the coming matches.

The 27-year old Argentine striker has made a total of just nine Premier League appearances for the Latics since joining from Estudiantes in the summer of 2010 but could feature for Roberto Martinez as he faces a hectic schedule.

Wigan host Fulham in the league on Saturday prior to next Tuesday's Capital One Cup clash at West Ham United before a trip to Sunderland next weekend and Boselli is set to help out Martinez after some scoring form in the reserves.

"What happened on Monday will obviously act as a real confidence-booster for Mauro," Martinez told the Evening Post after Boselli's late equaliser in the 3-3 draw with Barnsley.

"But more than that it shows you the kind of attitude he continues to show behind the scenes.

"It would be all too easy for him to be disappointed, but all he is focused on is preparing himself if and when he is called upon.

"He knows he is going to get his chance, and he is determined to work as hard as he can in the meantime.

"Mauro came and asked me whether he could play in the Under-21s, which is a fantastic sign for me as a manager."
