Friedel exclusive: Turner now justifies my public support; he can oust Ramsdale as Arsenal No1

Former USA World Cup goalkeeper Brad Friedel is delighted seeing Matt Turner confirm his growing reputation in Qatar.

The Arsenal keeper was impressive for his clean sheet in the USA's 0-0 draw with England on Friday night.

The result keeps the USA's hopes of World Cup progress alive and Friedel is delighted seeing Turner justify his public support of him. Indeed, the American insists Turner has all the ability to actually threaten Aaron Ramsdale's status as Arsenal's No1.

Speaking to Tribalfootball.com on behalf of OLBG, Friedel remarked: "I made a comment at a press conference that I felt he was good enough to be in the National team and I got criticised heavily for making the comment.

"Lots of people like to jump on things that aren't up front and centre, but it's different when you see things every day.

"Matt is one of the top out-and-out shot stoppers out there.

"Listen Ramsdale is an excellent goalkeeper and he's obviously Arsenals number one goalkeeper right now.

"So, can Matt Turner become the number one someday at Arsenal? Sure.

"Will it happen whilst Arsenal are sitting top of the table and Ramsdale is playing the way he is? I'm not so sure."

Friedel says Turner, given his form in Qatar, is likely to seek a loan move if he can't dislodge Ramsdale upon his return.

He added: "We'll have to wait and see how that unfolds, but Matt Turner is a really talented kid and if he doesn't get himself as a number one at Arsenal, then I hope some sort of deal can be done.

"Whether it be a loan or something of that nature or a sale where he can go to a top club and play.

"He has the ability to be a number one at a top club."
