Speaking to goal.com, Friedel also acknowledged how the increase of US players moving to Europe could help the national team at major tournaments.
"The US players at their clubs, including Pulisic, are in on merit and their ability alone," he said. "As the sport grows in the US, there will be opportunities, but today, he's in on ability alone.
"Pulisic is arguably our best player. He is on the attacking front and at one of the biggest clubs in the world."
After winning the Champions League and the CONCACAF Nations League in eight days, Friedel also believes the 22-year-old can lead his team to a successful World Cup in Qatar.
"It's fantastic to have him," he continued. "He's an outstanding player.
"If he keeps his head down and works hard, then I don't see many coaches not being impressed by him."
