The former USA keeper reckons the midfield maestro will pose a real threat to his fellow countrymen when they face England in their World Cup opener on June 12 in Port Elizabeth.
"James is one of the top three professionals that I've ever played with and that's saying something when he's at such a young age," Friedel told the Sunday Express.
"It's not a surprise that his name keeps getting mentioned with England.
"I fully expect to see him with the England team this summer and not just in a bit-part role.
"If he stays clear of injury he's going to have a very good and long career."
