French pundit Riolo: Arsenal midfielder Guendouzi falling into old habits at Marseille

French pundit Daniel Riolo says Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi is losing his form with Olympique Marseille.

Currently with Didier Deschamps' France squad, Guendouzi wore the OM captain's armband in defeat to Lille last weekend.

Via Le 10 Sport, Riolo told RMC: "Guendouzi, we criticised a lot. I saw him in the four corners of the pitch, that's being generous.

"I've seen the old one for two games: the one who gives orders to everyone, who shoots when you shouldn't shoot, who wants too much to be the boss, the show.

"It's a bit as if we could never change in the end, nature always catches up with you."

Guendouzi's loan deal includes a €10m permanent option. He is expected to sign permanently for Marseille next year. The midfielder has so far played all of Marseille's opening ten games of the Ligue 1 season, scoring once and producing an assist.

With Arsenal, the 22 year-old Guendouzi has a contract to 2023. His call-up by Deschamps is the second chance of involvement with the France squad for the midfielder, though he is waiting for a first France cap.

Despite the concerns of Riolo, Marseille coach Jorge Sampaoli is delighted with the impact of Guendouzi to the point of handing him the captain's armband last weekend.
