Fred Rutten reveals Man Utd offer

Fred Rutten has revealed he's turned down the chance to be Erik ten Hag's assistant at Manchester United.

Ajax coach Ten Hag was officially confirmed as United's next manager last month. Ten Hag joins United on a three-year contract with the option of an additional year and he's set to arrive at Old Trafford after trying to win the Eredivisie with Ajax.

Former PSV and Schalke manager Rutten has now claimed he was also been asked by Ten Hag to become his assistant at United.

"Erik ten Hag has asked me to be his assistant at Manchester United, I said no," the 59-year-old said on Dutch TV.

"Everyone makes his own choices in life. I have a family, I have grandchildren that I want to see. This type of project, I felt uncomfortable with it."

Rutten, 59, is currently out of work after last managing Anderlecht in Belgium three years ago.
