Fred proves matchwinner as Man Utd deliver Rangnick debut win

Ralf Rangnick got off to the perfect start as Manchester United manager as his side edged past Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

Palace frustrated United for much of the game but were unable to stop Fred's looping winner in the 77th minute.

It capped off an impressive display by the hosts who were tested by the visitors.

Palace could have opened the scoring moments before Fred's goal when Jordan Ayew volleyed a cross along the United goalline and beyond the far post.

United found a new gear when Rangnick sprung a surprise by throwing on the energetic Anthony Elanga, along with fellow youngster Mason Greenwood. It was Greenwood who set up Fred for the winner.
