Francesco Becchetti has explained his decision to buyout Leyton Orient.
Orient lost a dramatic League One Play-off Final in May after a tortuous penalty shoot-out against Rotherham, a game which Becchetti witnessed first hand at Wembley.
"I had a good feeling at the end of the match because the team gave their best effort," Becchetti told the London Evening Standard. "At that moment, I understood that it was my time to start my adventure. If Leyton Orient had won, it would have been easy for me to say this was the right decision to buy them. The fact I wasn't disappointed but excited, even though they lost, was the indicator that told me I was ready for this challenge."
Becchetti claims to work "22 hours a day" and was mindful of sidestepping the usual public edicts from new chairman demanding success within a certain period.
"I have no timeframes in terms of success and no limits," he said. "What I want to see is effort and results. Everybody giving me 100 per cent in terms of effort - that is what I want.
"I've heard a lot of chairman who say 'in four years, we will go there' and then they had a lot of unforeseen problems. I know where I want to go. Promotion is the first step. When we arrive at that, we discuss the rest. How many of the others respected those four-year plans? So I don't want to say to you, after two years we will be in the Premier League. For me, it is important where we go next season.
"I am a businessman. I deal with very different things from the renewable energy sector to television. This is possible because I have passion for what I do and I try to instill this passion into the people who work with me.
"My past experience has taught me that with the right passion you can reach your targets even against those who are stronger than you."
