France coach Deschamps: We're watching Fofana at Leicester

France coach Didier Deschamps says he's keeping tabs on Wesley Fofana's progress at Leicester City.

Fofana again shone for victory over Wolves on Sunday.

The 19 year-old defender joined Leicester late in the summer transfer window after protracted - and often bitter - negotiations with Saint-Etienne. And since landing in England, Fofana has been a revelation for the Foxes, playing a key role in their surge to the top of the table.

Deschamps, having named his latest France squad last week, spoke to the media on Monday and was asked about the form of Fofona. And despite an abundance of quality centre-half options, Deschamps admits the Leicester defender's early form in England has him on the Les Bleus' radar.

The France coach was quoted by Le 10 Sport, saying: “There are a lot of young players at the centre-back position, including Fofana, who have a good level. After that it's up to me to judge.

"I'm not going to take six in this squad, but he had already shown very beautiful things at Saint-Étienne.

"He is a young player who confirms in his new club that he is up to it. He is one of the players we follow."

Fofana has joined up with France U21's squad this week, though coach Sylvain Ripoll has stated he may not feature in match action due to a "small problem" with his knee.
