Former Wednesday boss becomes Chesterfield chief executive

Chesterfield have appointed former Sheffield Wednesday boss Chris Turner as the club's new chief executive. Turner was a member of Sheffield Wednesday's 1991 League Cup-winning side and also played for Sunderland and Manchester United.

He later moved into management with Leyton Orient and also had spells in charge of Hartlepool, Wednesday and Stockport.

The 53-year-old insists his arrival at the B2net Stadium will not affect the position of manager John Sheridan, and he believes the Spireites are capable of getting themselves off the foot of the League One table.

"If anyone thinks I'm going to be looking over the manager's shoulder - I'm not. I've moved on, I'm going in a different direction," said Turner.

"I know League One very well and having seen Chesterfield play a couple of times this season, I know they are well capable of staying in this division. I'm excited about this football club going forward."
