Former Portsmouth owner to assist in resale of club

Sasha Gaydamak is to help speed up the sale of Portsmouth, according to a spokesman for the former owner of the Premier League club. Current owner Sulaiman Al-Fahim is attempting to sell a 90 per cent majority share in Pompey and talks have been taking place with Saudi-Arabian businessman Ali Al-Faraj.

Gaydamak still owns land surrounding Fratton Park and must give his backing to any new shareholders in the club, but he is prepared to cooperate with Al-Faraj.

A spokesman for the former Pompey owner told Sky Sports News: "Sasha Gaydamak only became aware of the deal to sell Portsmouth on Friday.

"He has instructed his advisors to provide all assistance to help any deal happen.

"He will do everything he can to assist the completion of a sale to an owner with the long-term interests of the club and its supporters."
