Former Newcastle United boss Graeme Souness has doubts about the club's protracted takeover.
The Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund £300m is in the hands of the Premier League, who are reviewing the bid with their owners and directors test.
And Souness is 'not convinced' the deal will go through.
Writing in The Times, Souness said: "Yet will that matter if a proposed £300 million takeover of Newcastle by a consortium led by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund is approved by the Premier League?
"I stress "if" because I'm not convinced that a state that has failed to stop the illegal streaming of Premier League matches asking to be accepted by it is a foregone conclusion, although I'd imagine the Saudis will have had a steer before making their bid, as they don't like to be custard-pied in public."
