Aston Villa are believed to be showing considerable interest in Nemanja Vidic.
The Sun reports that the Premier League strugglers are in talks with the former Manchester United captain who was released by Inter Milan on Tuesday.
Villa boss Remi Garde is desperate to strengthen his defence this month as the Midlands giants look to stave off relegation and sees the experienced Vidic as the man who can assist with that plight.
It is felt that a short-term contract for the 34-year-old Serbian centre-back, who has been loosely linked with MLS club DC United, could be agreed as he is now a free agent following his departure from Inter.
This scenario would also suit Villa who would not want to commit to an ageing player such as Vidic in case they were to be relegated.
