Jaap Stam has made it vehemently clear that he never did anything wrong by Sir Alex Ferguson by leaving Manchester United.
The Reading manager left Old Trafford for Lazio in 2001 after winning three Premier League titles and one Champions League medal in just three years at the club.
Injury prompted Ferguson to make a decision on Stam and the Dutchman recalls that he also had to make a call by departing the famous club for Italy.
"Everyone knows what happened at United with my injury and the decision that Fergie made to sell me after three years of winning everything and doing very well on a personal level," Stam told SkyBet's YouTube channel.
"I wouldn't say that I stood up to Fergie.
"I just wanted to prove him wrong when I went elsewhere.
"It's nice when you hear him say, 'I regret that I sold Stam', but those things happen in football and you need to keep going and show yourself to the world."
