Former Mainz stars warn Liverpool players over Klopp

Former Mainz stars Tim Hoogland and Patrick Owomoyela has warned Liverpool players that they are in for a tough fitness regime under Jurgen Klopp.

Many feel that Klopp will be able to turn Liverpool's fortunes around but the 48-year old most certainly has a tough job on his hands.

Nonetheless, Klopp has promised to bring about positive changes at Liverpool and one should expect the Reds to become a more exciting team under the German.

While Liverpool fans will be looking forward to the prospect, the Reds stars might not enjoy the arrival of Klopp too much according to his former Mainz pupils Hoogland and Owomoyela as the duo have revealed that their ex-manager demands his players to run at least 120km during a game.

Hoogland said: "You have to run. That's it.

"I think this is one of the important things you have to know about him. The whole team has to run 120 km (74.5 miles) collectively every game. 120 km minimum."

Owomoyela went on to explain Klopp's 120km theory: "In his first year he said he wouldn't guarantee anything apart from that when we reached 120km per game then it would be much harder for us to lose.

"He actually offered us a day off when we reached that target. He thought that if we reached that then we would win the game. And from then on it became easy because we understood that his plan would work."
