Former Liverpool manager Houllier passes away

Former Liverpool and Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier has passed away, according to reports in France.

Houllier has died at the age of 73, according to RMC Sport

The Frenchman, who also worked with Aston Villa and Paris Saint-Germain in his coaching career at club level, passed away in the early hours of Monday morning.

Houllier was a much-loved figure at Anfield after guiding the club to a cup treble in 2001.

He has suffered a long history of medical problems over recent years and needed to take five months off while in charge of Liverpool in 2001 due to a heart issue.

Houllier famously led the Merseyside giants to the FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup treble in 2000-01.
